There are numerous benefits of opting for a steel staircase design over some of the more frequently used options. In terms of durability, elegance & style, a steel staircase structure cannot be matched. The versatility of a steel staircase means that you can tailor the look of the stairs from a design perspective to fit with the general design of the building – such versatility is more difficult to execute when working with timber for example.
In addition, a steel staircase structure can achieve a more elegant and contemporary look than timber and another major plus is that a steel structure generally can function without the need for timber supports which can impact on the finished look of the entire design project.
As a material, steel can be crafted and styled by our fabricators to create an end product that is simply unachievable when working with a timber structure. The durability of a steel staircase also means that it is fabricated to last a lifetime (such is the case with all Signature Stairs products) ensuring that ongoing maintenance is zero thereby providing an extremely cost-effective solution.
Our expertise and experience in the industry combined with the skills of our architectural metalwork specialists means each stairs is an elegant creation and structurally sound. The stairs are generally mild steel structures which feature stainless steel balustrade, clear toughened glass balustrade or a tailored combination of both elements. The steps themselves can feature steel finishes or you can choose a finish in high grade natural solid timbers while you also have the option of matching the timber steps with a timber handrail.
The modern fabrication techniques that we employ within our mild steel staircase structures are the optimal way of achieving the popular cantilever design. Using this method, we can conceal the support structures required behind your wall finish to remove the visual appearance of these and present the stairs as “floating”.
This method is also ideal for creating a central spine stairs structure as our process of engineering a central steel spine is hugely effective for specific projects that may require ‘winder’ steps or ‘kite’ style steps.
The vast majority of stairs produced by our team of experts are fabricated using high brushed finish stainless steel with interior stairs using 304 grade stainless steel. A mirror finish stainless steel (sometimes inaccurately referred to as chrome finish) is another production method utilised by our team which brings an extra level to the aesthetics of our stairs creations.
Yet another factor to consider when selecting a steel stairs structure over timber is that when our stairs do feature a steel structure that is visible, these mild steel structures contain steel that has been filled, sanded and finished (with a high build primer) so that it is in a position to have a finished colour applied to meet your project’s needs.
Your Stainless Steel Stairs – How To Maintain & Clean
The most important piece of advice on maintaining the look of your steel stairs is to always make sure that you use a cleaner that has been specially created for use on stainless steel materials. The major supermarkets or even DIY stores should stock cleaners to meet your needs so always follow the instructions provided on the manufacturer’s label and follow their steps in relation to applying the cleaner and then the process of drying off that they advise (cleaners left on stainless steel & not dried off can on occasion leave a residual mark). One final tip for maintenance is to always follow the brush lines of the stainless steel when initially applying a cleaner or when buffing to get the best possible results.
